BankProspector | Bank & Credit Union Search

Bank Search & Credit Union Search

Bank Search and Credit Union Search are the primary tools in BankProspector that allow members to find lenders using detailed filters across a database of roughly 9,000 banks and credit unions in the United States.

These tools help members identify lenders based on geography, financial metrics, and real estate–owned (REO) exposure, making it easier to locate lenders and distressed note opportunities that match specific criteria.

NOTE: For existing members: This workflow was previously referred to as Power Search. While the interface has changed, the core search behavior remains familiar.

Where to Find Bank & Credit Union Search

  1. From the left navigation, go to Bank & CU Data
  2. Select Search Banks or Search Credit Unions
  3. The search interface opens with filters and results displayed in a single view

NOTE: Bank and Credit Union searches operate the same way. Available filters may vary slightly depending on lender type.

Step-by-Step Example

Find Florida Banks with Residential REO

In this example, we’ll find banks headquartered in Florida that have at least $100,000 in Residential REO.

Step 1: Open the Search

  • Navigate to Bank & CU Data → Search Banks
  • Select the desired reporting period at the top of the page

Step 2: Set Your Filters

You can narrow your results in a few different ways, depending on how quickly or how specifically you want to search.

Quick searches
At the top of the Bank or Credit Union Search view, you’ll see several quick search options, such as:

  • Small Banks
  • Regional Banks
  • Well Capitalized

These apply commonly used filters automatically and are a fast way to narrow results before adding additional criteria.

Location search

  1. In the main search view, locate the State dropdown
  2. Select Florida (You can select one or multiple states.)

OR

  1. Click More Filters
  2. Open the Geographic Location section
  3. Apply additional geographic criteria as needed

The results table will refresh automatically based on your selected filters.

Step 3: Add REO Filters

In this example, we’re looking for a bank with a minimum of $100,000 in Residential REO.

  1. Click More Filters
  2. Expand Real Estate Owned (REO)
  3. Locate Residential REO (USD)
  4. Enter:
    • Minimum:100000
    • Maximum: leave blank

Leaving the maximum value blank allows the search to return any bank with $100,000 or more in Residential REO, without placing an upper limit on the results.

Apply the filter to update the results table.

Note: All filters in Bank Search and Credit Union Search are applied using AND statements.

This means a lender must meet every filter you’ve selected in order to appear in the results—not just one or some of them.

If a search returns no results, try adjusting or removing filters one at a time to broaden your criteria.

Step 4: Review and Customize Results

  • The results table updates automatically as filters are applied
  • Columns reflect the data points used in your search
  • Click Customize Columns to select which columns you’d like to view and tailor the table to your needs

Saving and Targeting Results

From the search results, members can save lenders and searches for future reference. More detailed guidance on managing watchlists and saved searches is available in their respective help articles.

Watchlist saves individual lenders, while Saved Searches allow you to rerun the same criteria in the future.

Add Lenders to Your Watchlist

  • Click the bookmark icon next to a lender’s name
  • This adds the lender to your Watchlist in the My Work section

Saved Searches

  • To save a search for future reference, click Save Search
  • Give your search a name and add any optional details
  • Saved Searches can be accessed later under Bank & CU Data

Exporting Results

  1. Click Export to CSV above the results table
  2. The export will run in the background automatically
  3. Once complete, the file is saved in the CSV Exports tab under My Work

From there, you can download the file to your local machine. Exported files remain available in CSV Exports, so you can access them again later if needed.

Summary

Bank Search and Credit Union Search make it easy to narrow a large pool of lenders down to the ones that match your exact criteria. By applying location and financial filters, customizing your results table, saving lenders to your Watchlist, saving searches for reuse, and exporting results, members can efficiently identify and track lending opportunities that matter most.
